Different Water Filtration Techniques
Physical Vs Chemical Filtration
In the process of physical filtration, the operatives strain the water through a large filter to effectively remove all impurities. It targets heavy contaminants. In chemical filtration, the water is passed through an active material. This material has absorption properties, which can remove pollutants.
Distillation
This method of water filtration is around for several generations. The water is heated to reach a boiling point. The water vapour rises, condenses and cools down. Now, this pure water is collected, and the heavy contaminants stay in the original container only. This method of purification is not effective for contaminants with a low boiling point. But this method can get rid of sodium, bacteria, dissolved salts, nitrates and other organic compounds.
Reverse Osmosis
In this method, the water passes through a semi-permeable membrane without leaving behind larger impurities. The water flows with high pressure through this membrane that acts as an excellent filter. It repels the dissolved materials and diffuses the water molecules by molecules. Eventually, it forms pure water. Through the RO filters, the water goes from a highly concentrated state to a low concentration. It eliminates harmful substances like potassium, nitrate, arsenic, sulfate, calcium and more.
Deionization
This filtration method promotes ion exchange to remove salts and other electrically charged ions completely. Well suited for water treatment plants, this method removes contaminants from the hard water. It also effectively removes living organisms like bacteria and viruses.
UV Filtration
In this system, the water passes through a chamber where there are UV lights. This UV ray kills parasites, viruses and bacteria. The operatives can increase the UV ray functioning to 104 degrees Fahrenheit. It is effective in removing mineral contaminants.
